Chris and Debbie Williams

Resident on-site directors. Members of Fort William Baptist Church.

 

Chris Williams - Centre Director - LLB; ACA; RYA Powerboat Instructor. 

Married in 1986, Chris and Debbie moved to Glencoe to take over the running of the Centre in 1988. That Chris is a keen sailor and skier is very much thanks to Debbie's encouragement. Chris has a business background and much of his role is thus behind the scenes, whilst Debbie takes the lead in organising the team and the activities.

Debbie Williams - Director with responsibility for outdoor activity provision – BSc; APIOL/POL; RYA Yacht master with Commercial Endorsement and RYA Yacht Master Instructor; RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor; L&D11 - IV; BC level 2 canoe coach and Paddlesports Touring Leader SUP; SNSC Alpine Ski Leader; IOL ROP & RPIOL Coach. 

Debbie's personal passion in outdoor activities is for sailing and skiing. She is an RYA Yacht Master Instructor, Senior & Advanced Dinghy Instructor and Principal of the Centre’s RYA Training Centre.

Debbie is committed to making Outdoor Education Modern Apprenticeship (MA) available to young people looking for a route into the outdoor industry. Debbie is a member of the Scottish Adventure Activity Forum (SAAF), a member of the Institute of Outdoor Learning (IOL) and coaches aspirant Accredited Professionals for IOL.

Jeremy Rivers

Jeremy, (Debbie's dad), has lived in Ballachulish since 1992 and has been involved in the running of Glencoe Outdoor Centre since its inception. Jeremy trained as Lay Reader in the Scottish Episcopal church. Jeremy has been a keen skier and sailor since his time in the army and keeps his instructing hand in by running the occasional archery session. Since retiring from IBM, Jeremy retrained as a Project Management Professional and until recently, has been running Project Management classes in many countries for IBM employees, customers and business partners. 

Gordon Roy

Gordon lives in Blackford, Perthshire and is the North Team Leader of Scripture Union Scotland. He makes use of Glencoe Outdoor Centre as a guest at SU Scotland’s Mountain Biking and Watersports Holidays. He also does some instructing at the centre on the water, in the hills or teaching circus skills. Gordon has been a director of The Glencoe Trust Limited since 2003.

Vivien Thorpe

Vivien lives in East Kilbride and works as a Clinical Scientist in audiology at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. She's a member of Queen's Park Baptist Church in the city too. Her link to the centre began in 1994 when she worked there for a year before going to university.  Her hobbies include running and sharing her love of the outdoors with her children. Vivien was appointed as a director of The Glencoe Trust Ltd in 2009.

Clive Scowen

Clive Scowen, 58, is a barrister who lives in Harrow and earns his living in London as Editor of The Law Reports and The Weekly Law Reports. He is a licensed lay minister at Christ Church Roxeth and represents London diocese on the General Synod of the Church of England. He first stayed at GOC in 1994 when a friend from church was on the staff, and has been back every year since then. He became a non-executive director of The Glencoe Trust in 2003.

Gordon Roy
